With the foredeck covered in North Sails bags, and her blue tarp, Madsu’s looking, well, blue.
At the floats, Plumper Cove, Keats Island.
We had a super quiet night at Plumper Cove on Keats. The only dock party involved a Great Blue Heron, who decided to fish from the outside float.
It was a super still night weather wise as well – which resulted in a bumper crop of mosquitos in the cabin.
Given that there’s a small schooner in the cove, and the water was super clear, and it was hot hot hot, this could easily pass for a quiet little bay in the tropics – except for all the cedar trees.
This was shot from Keats Island, Plumper Cover is the left, across the sound is the town of Gibsons Landing.
The crew on the dive boat Sea Dragon that’s moored behind me at Sewell’s in Horseshoe Bay have been talking about how clear the water has been the last while.
Here’s a shot from our trip to Keats that gives you an idea of the visibility – amazing.
I had a refreshing swim off the shore – normally I don’t like to wade in and prefer to jump from the boat – but the sun was hot and the water delicious.
Later in the day a number of people came over from Gibsons for a swim. The locals were telling me the water off Keats heats up a bit more than it does on their side Howe Sound.
The building next to the General Store at the Barnabas Camp on Keats Island.
Next time you sail into Plumper Cove on Keats Island, take a hike over to the General Store at Barnabas Camp. It’s about a 30 minute hike, 40 if you get lost like we did.
Check the map at top of the ramp at the campground – follow the trail along the water – 1 right, 2 lefts, through a gate and you’re there.
You’ll get a nice view of Howe Sound .
Hours are something like 1:00 to 4:30. Expresso machine, ice cream, cold drinks and other stuff. It’s a nice spot in the sun.
While at Plumper Cove on Keats, we hiked over to the Barnabas General Store on the Barnabas Camp compound.
A 40 minute hike each way, we took a big pass on the Christian books on the shelves and instead we went a little crazy and had a round of Barq’s Root Beers.
The ice cream looked pretty good.
